A room in a building at Ito Poultry Farm in Tachikawa.
Tokyo Ukokkei chicks are pecking at their food with all their might. Open the door and a soft, warm breeze flows out. The young chicks, who are still unable to regulate their body temperature well, are carefully raised under 24-hour supervision, every two hours. Next door is the coop where the adult chickens are kept. Here and there, you can see tiny Silkie chicken eggs that have just begun to be laid.
Ito Poultry Farm takes in chicks immediately after they are born, so they can be involved with the chickens from their physical development. Their feed is adjusted to a unique blend according to their age, improving their body’s ability to absorb nutrients from the inside. Because they are healthy, they grow quickly and require fewer vaccinations. The chick raising rate is said to be nearly 100%*. They are involved from the chick stage and are responsible for their lives until they are finally turned into meat. That is their commitment. A tour of Ito Poultry Farm will help you understand why raw eggs are so delicious in Japan. Japan’s incredible technology can be found in Tachikawa.

*Chick rearing rate: Chick survival rate. “Up to 100%” refers to the rate at which chicks are purchased, without deducting any extra chicks delivered as surplus.
