Biotop

Biotop

This biotope was overseen by the NPO birth, experts in natural environments and ecosystems. It was designed with amphibians as the target species. The biotope's gentle slopes and uneven bottom are called "ecotones." The ecotones create a variety of water depths and moisture conditions, increasing the likelihood of attracting diverse species. Okutama's mountainous terrain lacks still pools of water, making this biotope an ideal breeding site for amphibians. Okutama is also home to aquatic creatures such as the near-threatened Japanese fire-bellied newt and the forest tree frog, rarely found in urban areas. Satologue will continue its observations in the hope of gradually connecting the site with the surrounding ecosystem and creating a virtuous cycle.
