The wasabi fields were developed by the Tsunoi brothers, who moved to Okutama to work as wasabi farmers. They piled everything by hand using a method called the Jizawa method, which they learned from senior local farmers. They used only what was already there and developed the fields in a way that blends in with the local climate. "This place wasn't originally where wasabi was grown, so it's a challenge, but we hope we can all work together to cultivate these wasabi fields," said the Tsunoi brothers.
